Harvest Time
After a marathon session of 8 straight hours on the apherisis machine ---- Martha is almost there, but she has to go back tomorrow for more stem cell collection. They didn't get enough today, because her Hickman Line won't return her cells fast enough; the machine was going only 2/3 as fast as it normally flows. Martha probably could have stayed on the machine longer and completed the collection, but once you're on you're on. The ONLY way to go to the bathroom is a bedpan, YUK! Needless to say, guess where Martha headed as soon as they took the needle out:)
She had a few visitors come to see her while she was harvesting - Amber, line nurse - Charlotte, child life (in the pic) - Jonathan, child life - Michael, brother - Mom, mom. The Donor Room staff were all real fun (her nurse's name was Sam and he was lots of fun except when he forgot to clamp her Hickman Line and blood squirted EVERYWHERE). There were lots of new movies, so she watched Flight Plan, The Cave, and Bad News Bears today. She also watched a video of KJRH News that was mailed to her and hopefully you have no clue why she did that.
This evening Martha is pretty tired, but she had no adverse reactions during the process, she didn't even get cold like most everybody else does, she got hot. In the pic you can see the harvested stem cells in the bag on the far right. We need some more of those and we plan on getting them tomorrow. Hope you get what you want tomorrow, too!

You rock Martha! Your doing a great job, you will probably have all those cells they need today and won't have to mess with it tomorrow. I think the piece on channel 2 was really good. Deb McCaskey is on spring break so I don't know yet if they have had any more response. I bet they have. If you want anything, tell Mom and she can email me.
Love Ya,
It is great that Martha did so well on Wednesday. We had a beautiful snow here last night. Driving to work this morning was like being in a post card picture. The snow is sticking to the trees and it is wonderful. The evergreen trees remind me of the pretty part of Christmas (not the ugly part we are used to). The red bud trees are blooming and the white on top of the blooms are gorgeous. I just wanted to sit in my car and look at the countryside instead of coming to work. All though I usually want to do anything but come to work. I miss you guys. I hope you have an easy day today. Lots of Love, Dad and Arletta
I don't blame ya Martha, I wouldn't use a bed pan either. They tried to make me use one when I was in labor with Corbyn. I just couldn't bring myself to do that. Blahhhh!! Sorry you gotta go back and go through the whole mess again.
My crew and I are going camping tonight (yes, even in the snow). We joined this camping resort on Grand Lake and the kids are thrilled about the indoor pool and the miniture golf. We can't wait until you are well enough to go with us. Remember when Mindy came out for a night too and you made the tent collapse on her because she wouldn't wake up. That was so funny!
Hi girls, I can't tell you how much I am enjoying keeping up with you. Memphis is such a lovely old town, I hope you get to do lots of exploring. Who knows, you might even become country & western or blues singers. You two may even write the perfect country & western song.
The crazy lady and psycho boy are out finally so I should be moving soon. I will be your neighbor by the time you get home and hopefully the sewing room will be up and running. I am looking forward to spending many wonderful hours with Martha making some terrific quilts. We may become the new Alex Anderson's of the quilting world. Michael can get involved as well. He can be our designer!
Weather here is crazy! I have never seen such a perfect snow. As amr said, the trees are beautiful and the best part is that it will all be gone by late afternoon. Streets are not a problem to drive on and the only down side to all this is that I just got my car cleaned up and now it will be horrible again.
Love ya, Sharron
